All Southern Graphics Council Members attending the conference are eligible to participate in this annual exchange and exhibition. This year, we are asking all participating artists to respond to the overall conference theme: Command Print.

Letter sized paper, 8.5 x 11 inches, may be the most mundane and expected sheet of paper that we endlessly encounter, yet it also represents the potential and the accessibility of Printmaking in our world. Its availability in a vast array of stocks and colors can be overwhelming, and the amount of options that can be effortlessly printed onto with familiar computer strokes, or via copy machine is staggering.

How are we as Printmakers able to transform a piece of 8.5 x 11 inch paper into a work of art?

Print size and format

Editions should be printed on any 8.5 x 11 inch paper, that may be prefabricated or torn down, and consist of twelve impressions numbered 1/12 to 12/12, using any printmaking process. All prints must be slip sheeted with the same size archival tissue or glassine. No prints may be thicker than 1/8 of an inch. Editions that do not conform to these guidelines may be excluded at the discretion of the coordinator.

Ten of the prints will be redistributed to other participants in a random selection process. The remaining two prints from each edition will be retained as a complete set for the Southern Graphics Council Archives at the University of Mississippi, and a second complete set will reside at the Virginia Commonwealth Printmaking Archives. If you plan to participate in the portfolio, please indicate this on your conference registration form. If you are not attending the conference you may not participate in the exchange portfolio.

There is a $10 fee for all participants to cover the cost of printing and handling the portfolios. Participants will pay this fee when they register for the conference. Participants will receive a portfolio receipt that will be needed to claim their collated portfolio at the end of the 2008 Southern Graphics Council conference.

Attendees should drop off their work in person when they sign in at the registration desk. Editions are to be picked up in person on Friday, March 28th, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm in the Fine Arts Building Room 122.
